MARK WEIL IS KILLED
Dear Colleagues and Friends, The Ilkhom Theatre is surviving great grief. On the night of September 6, 2007, Mr. Mark Weil, the Artistic Director of the Ilkhom Theatre - was killed. The accident happened around 11:10 p.m. when Mark Weil was coming home from the final rehearsal of "Oresteia" by Aeschylus, due to premier the following night at the Opening of the Ilkhom Theatre's 32nd Season. Mr. Mark Weil was attacked by two unknown males just as he was entering the Tashkent apartment building where he lived. He was hit on the head with a glass bottle and stabbed in the stomach with a knife; the men who attacked him immediately fled the scene. Mr. Mark Weil was taken to a local Tashkent hospital by emergency services where, after a long struggle for his life, the doctors could not save his life.
Master Mark Weil died around 2:00 am on September 7, 2007. His last words were: «I'm opening a new season tomorrow, no matter what happens…»
The Ilkhom Theatre Ensemble and Staff are continuing the life of the company in memory of its founder and leader Master Mark Weil and count on your support and cooperation. In deep grief, The Ilkhom Theatre Ensemble and Staff. The Opening of the 32nd Theatre Season and the Premiere of «Oresteia» - the last work of director Mark Weil - WILL BE HELD AS SCHEDULED!
