Ephraim Sevela, who was born in 8 March 1928, is a man with a cosmopolitan biography and destiny. He was born in Lithuania, graduated from Belorussian University and worked as a script writer in the Soviet cinema. Half a life he was a citizen of the USSR and in 1971 was deported to Israel after a well-known takeover of the reception of the Supreme Council by those Jewish, who were rejected to immigrate to Israel. He was named by authorities the main organizer of the takeover, probably because he was the only representative of the clerisy.
He was a Soviet screenwriter. He became a writer in Paris under big pressure of Edmond Rothschild, who forced Ephraim to write his first book «Legends from Invalid Street». Then he served in the Israel Army and participated in the war of the Judgment Day. He has been living and working in the USA, and now he is living again in Russia, Ukraine and Israel.
The German publishing house «Langen-Muller» included works by Ephraim Sevela in the collection of works of 15 most famous satirists of the world along with such writers as Yaroslav Gashek, Sholom-Aleichem, Art Buchwald, Mikhail Zoshchenko and others. Irwin Shaw about Ephraim Sevela: «Ephraim Sevela has a fresh and true talent, and incredible gift to strike sparks of humor from the most tragic events, which he could survive…» The name of the film script by Ephraim Sevela, which will be presented at the stage of the Ilkhom Theater «A husband as other husbands», speaks for itself. This is a wonderful story about a husband… or rather about two meanings of the concept «HUSBAND».
Relations between men and women are always not simple. Moreover, if a husband has a reputation of a philanderer, he could find himself in such stories, which no one can imagine…
What do we have as a raw data? There are two main characters, which are almost archetypes of many anecdotes about Jew people.
The first one has success from all female population of the planet. He loves this population with one and very ardent love and they return their love to him, but, at that, he loves only his wife.
The second character is henpecked and a coward since the moment he was born and according to his destiny. 25 April – «A husband as other husbands» by Ephraim Sevela, director – Marina Turpischeva Actors participate in the improvisation: Dilshod Ismailov, Boris Gafurov, Maxim Tumenev, Marina Turpischeva, the Honored Actress of Uzbekistan, Vassa Dergaleva, Raikhon Ulasenova, Svetlana Kremchaninova, Evelina Yusupova, Tyler Polumsky, Vsevolod Suchkov On April, 25 - a photo

An old song «On the Sunny Side of the Street» by Jimmy McHugh became the name of a new novel by Dina Rubina. This novel has been written during 26 years. It is novel-mosaic, novel-saga, novel-song and nostalgic story of the city, a bright painted box with a little devil inside. Lots of complete, fantastical and amazing stories burst through to us from this box. Behind all these stories there is The City – spicy, sunny, prominent and juicily described. Babylon, Noah's Ark, which is consisting of nations and occupations, conceivable and inconceivable. The City, which united in one short moment of history Greeks, Jews, Georgians, Ukrainians, Tajiks, Japanese and Germans, graduates from the Mariinka Theater, Sorbonne University, technical vocational and art schools, noblemen, dispossessed peasants, criminals, professors and prostitutes.
All this life circulation is united and combined in the novel by stories of the novel’s authoress and an artist, Vera Scheglova, whose paintings are original storage of city characters and their fates.
This novel is a novel about two heroines, artists and authoress, and one City – Tashkent.
There are several plot lines wrote out as if they were written for a full-length film – one heroine appeared to be a drug baroness, and then – a noblewoman, who was forced to change her last name.
Another one brought to her house a stranger, alcoholic (who was falling in love with her, but got married to her mother, who killed him), then she fell in love with an invalid, got married to a millionaire and this yet was not an end of the story.
Strong characters, criminal collisions, spicy bazaar scents, lots of heat and water, these are components of this novel and this City.

Semen Zlotnikov: «In 1979 Mark Weil, a creator and permanent director of the Ilkhom Theater in Tashkent has finally broken a censorial prohibition of «Scenes Near to a Fountain.» He staged it. It was an excellent production. An obeisance to him for this.»
«Ivan and Sara», which will be presented at the Ilkhom stage on 29 April, is a penetrating drama of people’s destinies voluntary frustrated into unexplored space of the world, into new circumstances of life – immigration.
New people, who full of strengths and do not know any fears, can blend with life in Israel with its ancient heroic spirit and modern erotic. But how two not young repatriates from Russia, who are wandering in the edge of this strange reality pierced by sun and bursts of gun fire, can blend with such life?
Being in foreign country, not knowing the language, they are rehearsing episodes from productions at home, and hope that colleagues from Israel theaters will see them.
They are without money, food and can not pay for apartment. Their son was in the army and disappeared somewhere. They are looking for him everywhere in the country and rehearsing in spite of everything.
