REMEMBERING MARK WEIL FUND IN SEATTLE, USA
Dear Friends! Teachers, students and graduates from the University of Washington in Seattle, who studied or worked with Mark Weil both at the University of Washington, Seattle and the Ilkhom Theater School of Drama, Tashkent - established a fund "Remember Mark Weil" in support of the Ilkhom Theater Tour to Seattle, WA in Spring 2008. The tour was planned by Mark Weil and managed by Harold Norris, Director of the New York H-Art Management Agency.

Finally, there are new chairs in our auditorium!!! These are chairs made in Germany and designed especially for such chamber theater auditoriums as our auditorium. It is a pity though… that nobody helped us to buy the chairs… For those, who do not know: the Ilkhom Theater is not a state theater. It did not and does not ever receive any donations for any item, which you see on the stage, in the auditorium or in the premises of the Theater. Anyway!... A presentation and a show of the first 2-weeks stage rehearsals of the «Ilkhom» Theater and Blow Up Theater has taken place in the popular in London «Lyric Hammersmith» theater. The production is based on the book «Ludmila's broken English» by DBC Pierre, the Booker Prize laureate. The project was supported by the British Council in Uzbekistan. THE JOINT PROJECT OF THE ILKHOM THEATRE and BLOW UP THEATRE (London)
THE IDEA:
• To work with DBC Pierre to adapt his novel Ludmila’s Broken English for the stage; • To investigate and realise the two worlds in the novel – one set in the UK, and the other in the obscure Russian district of Ublisk Sector 41 – through a collaboration between UK-based company Blow Up Theatre, and the Ilkhom Theatre who are from Tashkent, Uzbekistan; • To stage this epic tale using a combination of visual theatre, movement, music, and three languages.

We are pleased to inform you that in April-May 2007 the International Laboratory of Young Directors of the Central Asia and Kazakhstan will continue its work with support of the Ebert Foundation (Germany) and The Action Prize presented to the Laboratory by the Culture Council attached to the President of the Russian Federation.
The creative process of the 5th Laboratory as it was stated earlier, this time will be based on the work process over the classical literature text, which belongs to the history of culture and the World Theater – «The Oresteia» Trilogy by Aeschylus. During seven weeks we have been making an opinion poll among the audience of the theater in the Ilkhom and its site. As a result, 781 people became members of the Grand Jury. The winners of the 1st Ilkhom Prize 2007 became…
«The success in Japan has exceeded all our expectations and we think also expectations of the tour organizers, who created perfect conditions for our work», – this is a unanimous opinion of the tour participants. All tickets were sold out for all four performances in Tokyo. In the last day of the performing people were sitting on the steps of the amphitheatre, since more than 100 additional seats were extra sold.
There are lots of responses, comments and even pictures, placed by new Japanese fans of «Ilkhom», appeared on Japanese sites: «We have discovered a modern theater from Central Asia. We have discovered «Ilkhom». «Imitations of the Koran» is not a simple production for understanding. But the level of the direction by Mark Weil, actors and musicians as well as modern language, which they spoke, cast a spell.» It was a frequently repeated opinion of Japanese spectators.
The «Action» Prize was presented to the «Ilkhom» Theater on 15 June, in Moscow
A ceremony of the presentation of the Prize on support of theater initiatives of the Culture and Art Council under the President of the Russian Federation took place on 15 June, in Moscow. «Ilkhom» Theater was among the first laureates that received the «Action» Prize for creation of the International Laboratory of Young Directors of Central Asia and Kazakhstan. The Prize was presented to the artistic director of the theater, Mark Weil.
On 9-25 October 2006, an unprecedented exhibition of the original paintings by Aleksandr Nikolayev (Usto Mumin, 30.08.1897-27.06.1957) was presented at the exhibition hall of the Ilkhom Theater for the first time. The exhibition will be dedicated to the 110th birthday anniversary and presented by four museums of Moscow, Tashkent, Nukus and Samarkand, with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
